Preseason 18/07/2014: Staveley MW 2 v 3 Mickleover Sports

With the sun out and the pitch 'looking well' the lads produced some excellent football as they fought their way back from 0-3 down to very nearly grab a draw against opposition from two divisions above.

As you would expect Mickleover had the lions share of possession early on and took the lead via a penalty converted by Jacob hazel in the 22 minute.

Anthony Griffiths Junior increased that lead from a direct free kick awarded for a handball outside of the box, from Staveley 'keeper Chris Butt who couldn't really have done much else as Mickleover were certain to score anyway.

Two became three on 37 minutes when Jacob Hazel again stuck the ball into the net. (I'll update this when I remember how it went in)

The introduction of Kurtis Morley who last season scored 11 goals from 23 appearances made the difference to the home side and he reduced the arrears just before half time with a powerful run and shot which gave Ross Arkins in goal for 'Sports no chance.

HT: 1 - 3 Mickleover Sports

Just after the break Kurtis Morley collected a through pass and slotted the ball home once again after side stepping the 'keeper, to make a real game of it, but despite several chances the away side held firm and took the victory.

FT: SMWFC 2 - 3 Mickleover Sports

If Staveley can keep up the football and performance levels of the second half throughout the season then we've got plenty to look forward to...enjoyed that!
