Who Got Us the Points?

An idea borrowed from owlsonline.com, which aims to find out which players made the telling contribution to the "pts" column in the league table.

In a draw. The player who scores the goal that secures a draw (our first in a 1-1 draw, our second in a 2-2 draw etc) is determined as having earned us that point; or the defence* in the case of a 0-0 draw.

In a win. The player who scores the goal that made sure we got a draw (our first in a 2-1 or 3-1 win, our second in a 3-2 or 4-2 win) gets one point or the defence in the case of a two nil win.

The player who scores the winner (the second in a 2-1 or a 3-1 win etc) gets two points (as he turned a draw into a win).
(words courtesy of Owlsonline)

*defensive points are shared between the 'keeper and the back four in the event of a defensive substitution the points will be split between the 2 players involved.

It sounds more complicated than it actually is...stick with it!  (newest update first)

  • 26/04/2014 - Well thats it folks all over :( but 2013/14 went out with a bang as we thumped Lincoln Moorlands 5-1.  no clean sheet though so that means young Ryan Watters with his first goal for the club ensured that we would have at least got a point and Matt Thorpe scored the goal (our second) that turned the point into three an important goal for the team but especially for Matt because the two points gained from it, took him from third in the table to Who Got Us the Points Champion 2013/2014....

the question was asked in the clubhouse today "where do the half points come from?"

When the defence keeps a clean sheet they are deemed to have "won the first point" i.e. the team draws the game if no goals are scored therefore gaining 1 point.  a defence usually comprises 1 goalkeeper and 4 defenders so ALL of them gain that point. Therefore its split between them.... K.Payne and P.Austin (for example) have 0.1 points because they were involved in a substitution with another defender therefore 0.2 points is split between the two players involved in the substitution....EASY :)

  • 16/04/14: The long awaited clean sheet against Basford at home, means that the defenders pick up the first point from last nights 2-0 victory, unfortunately for them it doesn't change the table much from their point of view.  Nick Hague will be smiling though as his stunner just before halftime sees him jump a whopping 5 places into second and crucially right in contention for the title as we enter the final week of the season....

  • 26/03/14 the two tremendous results in the last two games haven't changed the leader board too much, Josh Scully still leads on 5 points but Nick Hagues winner against Heanor and Joe Flint's goals (the first at Heanor"would have" secured the team a point had Nick not scored and his 87th minute goal that secured us a point against Bridlington) have seen them both leap into the top ten.

  • 23/11/13 & 27/11/13 - Reece Littlejohn has gone goal and point-tastic in the last two games, his equaliser away at Brighouse earned us a point and he followed that up by scoring a hatrick in our 8-2 home victory against Liversedge, crucially he scored the goal that "would have" earned us a draw and also the goal that secured the win. A massive 4 point haul for Reece!

  • 26/10/2013 - Pat Lindley joins the race today after his goal earned us a very good point away at Tadcaster Albion
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • 25/09/2013 - Points are coming like buses, you dont get any for ages then they all come along at once. Micheal Trench' opener and subsequent clean sheet means Trenchie gained a massive 2.2  out of the 3 points available. Jordan Turners goal counts for nothing in this competition as the points would have been gained without it - great finish though Jordan.

  • 11/09/2013 - its been a while since this was updated but after 4 defeats and the loss of the point gained at Athersley, Im pleased to announce that there is a new name at the top of the leaderboard. Jordan Turners 2 goals in the game against Maltby Main last night earned us all three points. Brian Cusworths goal for the visitors meant that without Turners goals we again would have been pointless.

  • 14/08/2013 - We got our first points of the season last night in the 1-0 home win against Glasshoughton Welfare. The  defence kept a clean sheet which means they take the first point because without our goal we "would have" gained only a point.
  • Nathan Whiteheads goal gained us the further 2 points for winning the game so he leads the early table which looks like this:
