V West Didsbury and Chorlton Fa Vase - 19/10/2013

You know you've arrived when you get promoted to the highest position possible at an organisation.

Albeit for one game only I watched the game from the highest point of Inkersall road “Top of the Tower (bar)” to film the match in, Mr Chairmans absence. With great views of Mastin Moor, the apex roofs of the Speedwell Industrial Estate and Staveley Church. - that’s been there a few years unlike our new signing, a goal keeper that left before even playing for us.

Mastin Moor, Speedwell and BAR 15

Staveley Church, the Toolstation Logo.and a clown.

The lads lined up as follows - 1. Martin Dewberry. 2. Chris Dickman. 3. Phil Austin. 4. Pat Lindley. 5 Luke Beatson. 6. James Colliver. 7. Jamie Smith. (cpt) 8. Josh Scully. 9. Matt Thorpe. 10. Nick Hague. And new signing 11. Reece Littlejohn.

With a very strong looking bench

Subs - 12. Micheal Trench 14. Anthony Rowley 15. Nathan Whitehead 16. Ryan Watters GK. Dan Holleworth.

I’ll apologise now, but you’ll have to watch the Oscar nominated film of the match for the finer detail because its very difficult to watch, film and take notes (for this report) on a fast paced game like football.

The first half wasn't one for the purists but the best of very few chances went to Staveley with Matt Thorpe the creator in chief , having a shot cleared off the line and squaring the ball across goal only to see the keeper save low down to his left from a shot from one of the on rushing blue and white wizards.

Football is all about opinions and it never ceases to amaze me how people can watch the same game yet come up with different conclusions, the only one that matters though is the referee and I don’t want to turn these reports into “its all the refs fault” because it isn't. He cant put the ball into the back of the net but there are some decisions that you just wonder what they've seen.

Pat Lindley put in a perfect block tackle on the Didsbury left back when he was clearing the ball only for him to get booked! I suppose he thought it was one of those where the ball is cleared and the player kicks the tacklers foot, but the ball hadn't gone anywhere.  The talk from Didsbury in Bar 15 after the game was that Pat was lucky to stay on the field!.. Like I say opinions, although I believe that the, not mentioned before expert camera work will prove us correct.

0-0 Half time.

The second half wasn't even a minute old when that man again Matt Thorpe returning from a four match suspension broke down the right, into the box and rifled a shot across the ‘keeper into the Inkersall Road end net

1-0 Staveley.

The rest of the second half continued in much the same vain as the first, very few chances but it was West Didsbury that had the lions share.

One thing that I did agree with the fans and officials of West was that Staveley ‘Keeper Martin Dewberry was our man of the match, although I think you would say that most of the saves he had to make were routine, they none the less had to be made and there was at least one world class save particularly the acrobatic right handed tip over the bar from a free kick, (again sorry if it wasn't a free kick I'm doing all of this from memory)

Half way through the half, West Didsbury were lucky not to be down to ten after James Colliver was on the receiving end of dangerous tackle. He was apparently also up for an “Oscar Nomination” (as well as the camera work) an “acting performance” so good that on the way down he managed to rip his sock and ruin their lovely blue colour with a dash of the red stuff.

The battery on the camera was running out towards the end, and I had intended to stick the camera onto charge at half-time.  no excuses but the packed bar made that difficult.  there was just enough juice left to capture, Pat Lindley breaking through the West Didsbury defence (who were pushing hard for an equaliser, coolly rounding the  ‘keeper in the 90th minute and slotting home to cap 2-0 Staveley win.

Perhaps a neutral would've said that West Didsbury deserved a draw but in truth they didn't quite do enough and it’s Staveley that take their place in Round Two.

Next up Staveley travel to Barton Town Old Boys (23/10) and are in action again at Inkersall Road on the 30th October against local rivals Parkgate.
